At Castlecombe Primary School we follow the Letters and Sounds Phonics Programme recommended by the Government, supported by LCP planning for schools.

The children are taught in groups according to which phase they are on. These groups are across Reception, Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2. When the children have finished the Phonics Programme they move onto Support for Spelling through Key Stage 2. During Reception, children take part in lots of phonic based activities through the day. In Key Stage 1 phonics is also revised and applied through handwriting and Literacy. Children will learn sayings and actions with each sound. Phonics is a key part of early school life and is monitored and assessed continually.
