New Library Opening
Mrs Haig, Headteacher, welcomed everyone to the opening of the new library:
Neil Gaiman, an English author has recently said that "The simplest way to make sure we raise literate children... is to show them that reading is a pleasurable activity, and that means finding books that they enjoy, giving them access to those books, and letting them read them.
A library is a wonderful place. It’s a place where you can get away from the noise of the world. It’s a place where you can sit down and do research or read a book. A lively, welcoming and well-resourced school library gives pupils positive experiences of books. Its role is to help create confident, enthusiastic readers and engage children in life-long learning. There is a clear link between the quality of a school's library and the general well-being of the pupils and their literacy levels."
And here we are in our Woodland library - doesn’t it look wonderful? And there is one person who has taken the task of getting our library up and running upon herself – and she has done an amazing job. So let’s all put our hands together for Mrs Olney.
